How an NFC review card works
NFC (Near Field Communication) is the same contactless technology used for tap-to-pay. Inside each card is a tiny NFC chip that stores your review link. When a customer brings an NFC-enabled phone within a few centimetres of the tap area, the phone reads the link and shows a notification to open it. The chip has no battery and never needs charging.
- Customer taps their phone on the "TAP" area of the card.
- The phone shows a link to your Google review page.
- They tap it and leave a review, usually in under 30 seconds.
Which phones support NFC?
Most smartphones sold in recent years can read NFC tags. iPhones from the iPhone XS and XR onwards read NFC tags automatically while the screen is on and unlocked. On Android, most mid-range and premium phones include NFC; on some models it needs to be switched on in quick settings.
That's why every card also has a QR code. Customers whose phones don't have NFC simply scan with their camera. Between the two, every customer is covered.
NFC + dynamic link: change it anytime
Both the NFC chip and the QR code on our cards open the same dynamic link that you control. Activate it once by scanning and pasting your Google review link, and change it whenever you like using your private edit key. There's no need to reprogram the chip or reprint the card.
Tips for the best tap experience
- Avoid metal surfaces. Metal behind an NFC chip weakens the signal. Place the card on wood, glass, plastic or a wall.
- Show customers where to tap. The phone's NFC reader is usually near the top back (iPhone) or the middle back (most Android phones).
- Keep it at hand height. On the counter or at the table works best.
